The Blackwood Pizza Bar located at 3560 Camp Creek Parkway, East Point, GA 30344, is a pizzeria touched with a little soul. Along with the regular tables you see in restaurants, they also have sofas and other big comfy chairs for you to fall into as you listen to a live band. Staff has been friendly, which is always a plus. Topping the soul, the customer focused staff and decor is the food. The pizza is GREAT and moderately priced!

Cocoa Chicks will definitely be there again!

Sidenote to the owner: You should really get your website finished. Your online presence should be just as fresh and intriguing as your real life presence ;). Keep up the good work!

Ignorance is Bliss

My blog partner DeeDee asked me to view a site of another local blogger to look at a very disappointing post. When she told me the site, I cringed because I am not a fan of this blogger but I wasn't suprised that the disappointing post would be on her site. Hesitantly I log on and sure enough, not to my suprise, I'm disgusted and disappointed.

Apparently this blogger was sent an event flyer that perpetuated the self-hate that has been historically instilled in blacks for as long as we can remember and passed down generation after generation. I'm assuming it was sent to her because she has a name and a following and they wanted her to promote it. The flyer contained, of course the usual, a half-naked women promoting a party (go figure!), but it was the kind of party they were promoting: Dark Skin vs. Redbone Affair. This alone is a topic blacks have been battling for centuries but that's not the issue for this post.

The issue is, this blogger expresses such 'disgust' about the flyer ..so much disgust that SHE STILL POSTS IT FOR ALL TO SEE! WTF?!? If you're "shaking your head to the ignorance displayed by our people" as your comment reads under the flyer, then you must be shaking your head at yourself. You're just as guilty for perpetuating this bafoonery as the event promoter is for putting it all together. Then you act like you're taking the high road by expressing "disgust" when you're really apart of the problem for posting it.

Great job Sandra! You're doing 'our people' such a service!

Recessionista Buster

Everyday in the news we hear about the recession. We hear about all the once stable companies going down for the count. All the unemployment, the struggling economy, gas going through the roof and Americans trading in Benjamins for Abraham Lincolns.

The fun you use to have seems to be far and few between. Girls Night Out has turned into sitting on your sofa texting your girls. But don't fret. There are so many things to do that consists of spending little to no money! The one we'll discuss today is: GAME NIGHT!

Not the 'usual' game night where the Celtics are running all over the Hawks ;) but the real game night where you actually play games. If you have a home or apartment that can fit 10 - 15 guests you have the perfect arrangement for a night of fun. Invite your friends, male and female, to come over to play games such as Taboo, Spades, Catchphrases, Dominos and Twister. Yes, I said it.. adult Twister! "RIGHT HAND - RED" Now how fun can that be geting mangled up with a fine man? LOL! Same for you gentlemen. You now have to put your arms around that cute girl you've been looking at all night to get to that red spot.

But the best game to get the most group participation and the best laughs are Taboo and Catchphrases. They are gauranteed to have you in stitches! Especially Taboo where your teammate has to say phrases that will help you guess the word he has selected in the deck of cards. For example, a card will have the word 'White House' on the top. Under 'White House' are 5 words/phrases you are NOT allowed to say to your teammates. You can say anything other than those 5 words to your team so that they can guess 'White House.' This example is very easy so don't expect it to be a breeze. The funniest memory I have of Game Night that took place last weekend was our teammate Alphonso trying to get us to say 'Mardi Gras'. The phrase he used was 'Essence Festival but not really Essence Festival.' We all just looked at each other and fell out laughing! What in the hell is 'Essence Festival but not really Essence Festival?' LOL!

So gather up your people, tell them to bring a bottle of something or snacks. If everyone brings one thing, you have food and drinks for the whole party. Now you have a night hanging with good friends and possibly making some new ones. You saved the money you would have spent getting into the club, parking and the $15 half filled 10 oz glass of Grey Goose and cranberry juice.

Leave those recession blues behind... .enjoy!

Old School Saturday equals good times!

Old School Saturday, or OSS, at the Westin Downtown, fun, fun, fun.  As a first time attendee, navigating through finding Will Call was a little challenging, although it was nice to purchase the $10.00 advance tickets and not have to worry about admittance.  There were no signs up to lead you in the right direction but the sound of the bass and the droves of people was direction enough.  Once inside there were array of people, wearing an array of colors. Shout out to the old pimps in lime green blazers and purple suits, I see you boo.  The crowd of mostly 30 and 40 somethings were hype dancing to their favorite 80's and 90's jams taking them back to happier times, like dancing on top of speakers in Tijuana, but enough about me.  Two stories of fun, a balcony overlooking the massive ballroom dance floor and lounge areas available for more intimate conversation.  The drinks were inexpensive or free if you were able to find a sponsor like we were, adequate strength but small.

Pros

• $10 advance tickets or in before 10 pm, but still affordable at $20 after 10 pm.
• Favorite hits from back in the day, even a reggae set.
• All of the men I encountered were gentlemen and polite.
• Security and full event staff

Cons

• Maze to get to Will Call.
• Long line to get drink tickets, then another long line to pick up your drinks.
• I had to tell the bartender how to make a Washington Apple (Crown-Apple Pucker-Cranberry)

This is my 3rd or 4th OSS and it gets better and better!  I'm laughing at Mimi's shout out to the lime green blazer! LOL!  Don't take us the wrong way, there were only a couple of men in there auditioning for the circus ring master position but overall, much eye candy for you single ladies.  There were even TALL ones there! But enough about the men, let's talk about the fun we had!  If you are tired of going out and not able to dance because music today is that bad, then this is the event you need to be at once a month.  Every song played glued you to the dance floor. I look forward to the next one!  I agree with all of Mimi's Pros and Cons but I must add parking to the Cons list.  Maybe I was just irritated with all the traffic from the ACC tournament, but it took almost 30-40 minutes to park.  Westin's parking is way to expensive but there are parking lots surrounding the hotel that were very cheap and convenient!
