The Crackberry Challenge

We live in the age of electronics. Technology has completely taken over human contact. We rather update our status on Facebook, twit, get in the space of our friends on Myspace and text than pick up the phone and actually TALK. The chirp of our phone letting us know that someone has posted a comment on Facebook has replaced hearing our friends voice. We rather listen to our Ipod than read a book or spark a convo with the person sitting next to us on the train. When did it get this way?

Years ago, once you left the house no one was able to contact you and you were CONTENT. It wasn't a big deal. Last week I left my phone at home and thought I was going to DIE. I felt so lost, abused, neglected, traumatized..all those kind of words. It felt like I had no contact with the outside world and couldn't function. The Crack, I mean the Blackberry had complete control over me and nooooooooooooooo one has control over this Cocoa Chick. So I'm putting myself to the ultimate test: 30 days without my Blackberry!

World, starting August 1, 2009 I will attempt to go 30 days without the advancements of technology. NO BLACKBERRY! No instant access to all my emails, Facebook, Twitter or the addicting Blackberry Instant Messenger that allows me to chat with any Blackberry user in the world no matter what service they use. I'm giving it all up!

I'll keep you posted!

Kelis' Milkshake Brings Nas To The Bank

Newly divorce Kelis and Nas give birth to their first child Wednesday night. A healthy boy named Knight. With claims of Nas leaving her 'high and dry' during her pregnancy, he was there for the birth of baby Knight. What he will not leave her high and dry for: spousal and child support.

Hours before Knight was born, a Los Angeles Superior Court judge ordered Nasir Jones to pay Kelis $44,000 a month until September 8, 2009. On top of that $44k, he must also pay an additional $40,000+ for Kelis' attorney fees and forensic accountant. Kelis claims Nas 'abandoned' her during her pregnancy. Nas is saying he gave her $30,000 for maintaining her health insurance costs.

That's some expensive ass milkshake!

Billionaires Boys AND Girls Club Of America

If you're like me, you look foward to Forbes Magazine annual list of 'Worlds Richest People.' I read their names and their net worth and pretend it's me. Yeah, I know. I’m corny.

Last year, the world had 1,125 billionaires. This year, we’re down to 793. The Billionaires Boys and Girls Club (BBGC), lost 1.4 trillion in net worth but who's counting? You know how you feel when you realized you lost a 5 dollar bill. You shrug it off and thank God it wasn’t a 20. That’s probably how they felt. It’s pocket change to them.

I took the time to generate a list of the top 20 U.S. billionaires. As I was going through this list, it dawned on me that their net worth is over 300 billion smack-a-roos. Can you imagine if they all got together and said, “Let’s donate 2% of our total net worth to the U.S. education system.”

*Shaking head* Silly me! What was I thinking?

So here goes. Here are our richest residents of these here fine United States. Sidenote: Tell the Walton’s they know they should be treating their employees better!

1. William Gates 40 Billion
2. Warren Buffett 37 Billion
3. Lawrence Ellison 22.5 Billion
4. Jim Walton 17.8 Billion
5. Alice Walton 17.6 Billion

Ignorance is Bliss

My blog partner DeeDee asked me to view a site of another local blogger to look at a very disappointing post. When she told me the site, I cringed because I am not a fan of this blogger but I wasn't suprised that the disappointing post would be on her site. Hesitantly I log on and sure enough, not to my suprise, I'm disgusted and disappointed.

Apparently this blogger was sent an event flyer that perpetuated the self-hate that has been historically instilled in blacks for as long as we can remember and passed down generation after generation. I'm assuming it was sent to her because she has a name and a following and they wanted her to promote it. The flyer contained, of course the usual, a half-naked women promoting a party (go figure!), but it was the kind of party they were promoting: Dark Skin vs. Redbone Affair. This alone is a topic blacks have been battling for centuries but that's not the issue for this post.

The issue is, this blogger expresses such 'disgust' about the flyer ..so much disgust that SHE STILL POSTS IT FOR ALL TO SEE! WTF?!? If you're "shaking your head to the ignorance displayed by our people" as your comment reads under the flyer, then you must be shaking your head at yourself. You're just as guilty for perpetuating this bafoonery as the event promoter is for putting it all together. Then you act like you're taking the high road by expressing "disgust" when you're really apart of the problem for posting it.

Great job Sandra! You're doing 'our people' such a service!

When TV Goes Wrong

I HATE REALITY TV! Period. I never liked it and never will. Even with the alpha reality shows like Real World and Road Rules that started this crap over 10 years ago, I never jumped on their bandwagon.

The real issues I have with 'reality' tv are to many to name but to start, lets begin with the fact that it's not 'reality' if it's scripted AND this kind of 'entertainment' is taking time slots away from qaulity tv with trained, seasoned and experienced ACTORS!

How many 'I"m-so-desperate-to-be-on-TV-and-to-find-love-I'll-compete-with-the-nastiest-most-pathetic-desperate-gold digging-meth smoking-coke snifing-plastic surgery having broads on the planet" shows do we need to see? In what 'real' world are 25 women chasing Flavor Flav? Or that has-been Bret Michaels who looks like he takes a hit of every drug on the planet before all recording? Then these ladies who are competing for these men. Was the prerequisite to apply 'skank'? What chick comes behind 23 other broads that kissed these 2 clowns in the mouth and kisses them too? YUCK! What 25 men found I Love New York attractive in the real world? Yeah, yeah, yeah I understand that it's all about getting exposure and the 'characters' were not on these shows really looking to be with these dust mites but did any of them have standards?? ENOUGH IS ENOUGH ALREADY!

There's also the 'reality' shows that follow the everyday moves of stars and entertainers. Who the hell cares about Tori Spelling, Denise Richards and the long term baby momma of rapper T.I. and her road dog also known as ex-wife of rapper Lil Wayne? Here is a list, in no particular order, of reality shows that are wrong on so many levels:

Rock of Love - Recovering heroin addict now turned meth head that still wears eye liner
Daisy of Love - Rock of Love meth head reject
Flavor of Love - YUCK!
I Love New York - A long lost Jim Henson muppet character that never made the cut
Tiny and Toya - I hope Toya finds love, she's such a pretty girl.
Charm School - Dust mite reality show rejects
College Hill - Higher learning at its best..so sad!
A Double Shot of Love - A Myspace hoe turns star?!?!? WTF!
Rock of Love Bus - A traveling meth head show hits the road
Keyshia Cole - Frankie. Enough said.
All dance and singing reality shows!
Scott Baio, Tori Spelling, Denise Richards - all the 'has-beens' rolled up in one!
All fashion and modeling shows EXCEPT Project Runway

Listen people, I don't think I can take another show. Just from watching their commercials we have all become that more stupid. Don't entertain this mess by tuning in. You're only contributing to my slow death!

WILL WE EVER SEE GOOD TV AGAIN?

Most of the time there are not to many nice words people have for pageant girls or models. They're typically viewed as pretentious, airheads and ditzy. When you see them on pageants and beauty contests giving their answers to 'What's your dream job?' and they say "to feed all the hungry children around the world' you automatically think 'WHAT-EV-ERRRRR!' When they win the competition we see them on tv for 3 days and then POOF, they're gone. All the great answers she told us such as giving back to the community, working at the local homeless shelter and serving food at the local food bank seem to have left the building.

Then there was Kristina Higgins. Saturday night she was crowned Miss Georgia but when it came time to sign on the dotted line, she gracefully bows out. And from what I hear, this was the girl to beat! Typically when we hear about beauty queens relenquishing their crown usually something scandalous is about to hit the fan - some old photos taken by an ex.. a sex tape.. something crazy.

Not Kristina Higgins. This 24-year-old special education teacher in Gwinnett County, GA who loves pageants so much that Saturday's competition was her third try, gave up that dream to continue a more important dream - TEACHING. Sunday morning, pageant officials were shocked when Kristina told them that being Miss Georgia would take away from her duties as a teacher. Now that's a MODEL citizen.

Kristina, if you're out there... you GO GIRL!
